Review: Lost Girls [Diary]

Game: Lost Girl's [Diary]
Played on: Steam
Console: PC
Price: $0.00 [Steam]
Genre: Free to Play, Anime, Horror, Visual Novel

Steam Synopsis:
A group of girls are having their vacation, alone. What would a group of girls do on a dark Christmas night? of course, fortunetelling! Unfortunately for them, their boyfriends are not about to leave them alone and their sudden visit ruins their plans for fortune telling, turning it into a scary story.

For a short game that promises an instant 100% rate once finished, it is really good and quite addictive. The story is grabbing and it makes you want to know how it ends. The best part of this, the game is completely free. The game has a nice feeling to it that lulls you into wanting to play it and keep wanting to see how it turns out. There is achievements and as a nice bonus, they give you a progress update on how far you are to getting them.

The art style itself is rather interesting, quite simple and cute. The art style seems to be influenced by anime, with the use of chibi forms in some situation with the male characters. Unlike some visual novel games which mention the changing of environments, this game actually changes when something occurs, which is quite charming for a visual novel game, since very few do this as often as this game did. There are some instances where you notice small things like panties matching the clothing or soft NSFW images that are censored in a friendly way to leave something for the imagination.

The music is pleasant and like the sound, it all works together to give a strong atmosphere to the game. I was amused when it incorporated sounds from other games such as the famous Metal Gear Solid alert tune. At the beginning the game is mostly spoken in Russian which is an interesting change from English or Japanese, which is common theme for most visual novels. This only occurs in selected parts, not the whole game.

Now, the vital part, the gameplay and story.

The story is a set of individual tales that seem to be very random at first but it comes together near the end, which is quite an amazing thing. Each story seems to mainly revolve around incidents at camps, also each one is a horror themed tale which is very intriguing and captivating, though on a personal note, they may not have been scary for me but they certainly has their charms as a tale of horror.

The Gameplay is simple. Typical click of the mouse for the whole game. It is quick and straight to the point and rarely leaves you hanging for a moment, it also never stops as everything weaves so smoothly and intricately together from beginning to end. The game itself changes and grow as you progress which keeps the player continuing the game. The only con is the fact the game ends, it ends very well but in a way, I, as the reader, wanted to read more.

So in a conclusion, this game is simple yet deep and intriguing. It leaves you guessing and wondering without dragging itself out. It makes the reader want to keep going and in my honest opinion, if you want a good read while playing a game, this is for you. I also hope that you give this game a chance, it won't let you down.

Score:  4 out of 5
