Hour of Power - Final Fantasy Type 0

To the left is my lovely copy of the game in today's spotlight, Final Fantasy Type 0 HD. Sadly I will lack proper gaming images since I am unsure how image capturing works on the PS4 but one day I will progress that far to do so but anyway, back to the commenting.
Final Fantasy Type 0 is proving to be an interesting game and a nice addition to the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythos which shares with Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XV, which has a pretty amazing demo out.
I may have only done the first mission but it is quite a game so far. The story is compelling as it revolves around War and the actions of Class Zero, a class that seems to be a myth of some form until a combat situation arises and needs their skill set. You are given a choice to control 1 of 14 characters, each with their own story and relations, which is nice and gives the player free reign of choices. You are also given certain events which can be triggered by certain characters, which consume in-game hours to waste the time between missions.
The character themselves, though brilliant combatants, are some what ignorant of the workings of most areas and items, which is quite amusing but also can be quite tiresome in some regards. Some voices annoy me and the Moogle is insanely cute, a bit annoying at times.
A thing I noticed is that in some scenes, the mouths of characters move like they would in the Japanese version of the game and you can tell it was transferred from a handheld console to a home console through both design and layout of game play, e.g, chapter based set-up.
Now the controls somewhat confuses me but I believe with time and many hours spent into it, it may prove to be not as cumbersome as it currently is. That and the story is something that may evolve beautifully as we progress into the game.
That is all for now, for I shall return to playing that or The Evil Within.

Personal Post #3

This is more like an update.

I am going to start a 1 hour gameplay comment thing as a progress bar for my future reviews. That and I need to give this blog some loving and this was the best way I came up with. It shall be called Hour of Power, due to me powering though the game for an hour then commenting and deciding if I shall continue or not. I will mention if it will be continued or not.

On a more personal note, I manage to procure two new things.

My Final Fantasy Type 0 SE game for the PS4 and the first PS4 game for me to own.
So far, the most I did with this is read the manga, looked at the artbook and been pining to play it for days xD.

Secondly, my new Bowser Amiibo, mainly for the Mario Party or whatever games. I am quite the fan for Bowser.

That's all for now.

Hour of Power: The Evil Within

Today on Hour of Power is the Bethesda Softworks and Tango Gameworks game of  The Evil Within or Psycho Break in Japan.
This is not your run of the mill Survival Horror, I think it is a bit more than that. It impacts the psychological aspect of the player as well and surely relies on the wit and patience of the player themselves, which use to be an aspect of the Resident evil series, which Shinji Mikami (Director of The Evil Within) also had his hand in helping create. Except I am getting ahead of myself here.

I only played about an hour out of the shown 3.8 due to allowing a friend to try it out due to my higher spec PC, so I will only speak about the first two chapters I have played in regards to this game.
Even before buying this game, I been anxiously awaiting it's relase ever since hearing the Shinji Mikami was going to have a lot to do with it and the fact that this game may even rival that of the original RE series, which as mentioned, he did work on that game series and help make the Survival Horror genre what it is today.

So, back to the game. At first, I was a little put off by how slow it was, yet it was nice, it made things more tedious when it got past the introductory bit, such as character meetings (Joseph Oda, Julie Kidman, Leslie, etc) as well as introducing the basic overview of the game (confronting a deranged being that surpasses the norm). Even with such little information, it is very compelling, you want to know more, you want to know why everyone was killed and why Leslie is warning you of dangers even before they occur. It's all fascinating.

The controls annoy me a bit but I only somewhat return to gaming and I grow a little rusty (unless it's Payday 2, then I am sharp as an ax). Out of all that, I do enjoy the whole sneaking and upgrade system and how to access the upgrading system is very intriguing, yet I am still not very understanding of what happens and how you get there (are you dead or in some sort of dissociative state?)
Just what is happening, what does this all have to do with you and that asylum. So many questions which will have to wait until I game some more hours into this.

An Idea in the works

Since I seem to forget my ideas and opinions for reviews, I am starting to record my sessions and go over them when I am done.
I will write what I like and add more to it and eventually, after I get some confidence and experience, I may make the video's public and see what happens.
I think this may be a fun thing to do.

Knights of Pen and Paper +1: A Musing

So today, I have been playing Knights of Pen and Paper +1 and I find it to be a very enjoyable game.
(FYI, Not feeling up to formally reviewing it as I only have played about an hour worth and not gotten further than Default village)

Anyway, I found it to be enjoyable and the fact I have to think about what I need and what to do has been refreshing.I also like the pixel style of game play and a few of the pop culture references used in the formula of the actual gameplay itself, Ramona Flowers anyone~

I also found some of the game lines quite humourous and in sync to what I am like as an RPG player, well more on the whole picking on the fact that a child has me searching for his grandfather and is all like "how'd the hell do I find him when I never met the bastard" but yea, we get the picture.
It's a fun game which is funny and can be quite addictive.
Anyway, I shall cease rambling about what I have decided to play, as a way to make my blog seem minorly active and resume playing and reviewing games between studying and dealing with family.

Personal Post #2

So in the majestic realm of Mizu, I am updating this blog with my recent loots since I have been very busy with TAFE and lazy with reviews.

So recently, I have moved and have finally settled in and this is my new PC set-up, complete with my small Amiibo collection.

I have to admit, the most colourful area of my room happens to be my bed and it's mainly due to my gaming plushie collection.

Now, my Bowser figurine has been something I been after for a long time, mainly cause I like Bowser and maybe one day aim for a collection of all things Bowser.

Also, those boosters were not as great as I hoped for but at least my collection has grown in size, which makes me happy.
Here is one folder of all my pokemon cards, which is somewhat over 1,000 cards and one day, I hope to battle someone with my collection cause it be awesome.

That and my cat was not amused when I paid more attention to my cards instead of my cat, she made sure I noticed her xD

Here is my newest Amiibo, Bowser and soon, I will have Lucina, Charizard and another Bowser to add to my collection. I certainly love cute little interactive figurines like these.

I also got myself Majora's mask SE on the same day, which was a nice little bonus I somewhat forgot about.

Though within a few months I will be getting a few more SE of games that I have been itching for in ages.

Now, I shall slowly go onto reviewing more stuff for all you people to look over.

Recent Loot

If anyone knows me, I am a huge Resident Evil Fan been playing since around initial release for Australia, so I was fairly young.

Don't get me wrong, I love RE1 like the next person but a second remake of the first game is a bit annoying but I do aim to see what is new and amazing in store for this puppy. I do hope I could find a hard copy of this game for my collection purposes.

On other news, I have read that there is a high possibility of a RE0 HD remake in the works and I do look forward to seeing this come to fruition. I also really hope that one day Capcom may even consider remakinf RE2 and RE3 cause that would be amazing and make a nice little collection right there.

So yea, in about 4 days, expect me to be playing this lovely buy and possibly writing a review for it without having my personal opinion blur it. Since that would be very unfair and bias.

Game Review: The Walking Dead: Season 2

Game: The Walking Dead: Season 2
Played on: PC/Steam
Console: PC/Steam, OS X, PS3, PSV, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbone, iOS, Android and Ouya.
Price: $24.99 [Steam]
Genre: Graphic-Adventure
Past Game: The Walking Dead: Season 1 [Game | Review]
Contains: 40 achievements to obtain for 100% completion and no extra content, so far.

Warning: This game contains a few scenes of physical and verbal abuse (mainly against women), racism, implications of dead babies and attacks against children.

Basically
It has been some time since the events of season 1. Clementine has found Omid and Christa, now they venture further into a world that has a bleak look in regards to survival.
You are Clementine, the world has changed you and since the sad departure of Lee. You are nearly alone and trying to make it through each day

Mizu's Thoughts
Last time we saw Clementine, she was alone and mourning the death of the closest person to her. She never gave up and kept her promise to find Omid and Christa and travel with them but even after she did that, she seems to be in trouble, riddled with the worst of luck.
Dog Bites? looting for food and health? More deaths of those who matter?
Things just don't seem to work for poor Clementine but that are the least of her problems in the next installment of the Walking Dead series done by Telltale Games.

This installment spans over 5 chapters, each one more emotional and dark as the last, can you walk through Clem through this crazy world in hopes of making sure she lives for the next day.

Clementine has greatly changed since we last met her.
She has become stronger, colder but still holds the values that Lee had taught her. She is a lot more confident and has more courage to face the dark world she lives in and in some instances, based on your choices, she can become ruthless, caring and plain cruel but hey, that choice is yours to make.
Her emotional states tend to range from cold and eye rolling at some things, to very emotional and keen on making things work. She seems to cry less and tends to pick herself up and move on. Making her a very interesting character to observe during this game.

As usual, you meet an assortment of characters who both live and die but some leave a lasting impact.
There are a few characters who are dark and cruel. Others who are sweet but gullible. Some you dislike at first but grow to be close. You also meet a character from Season 1, who you thought was dead but proved to be the opposite.
They develop superbly in the progress of the game but it's sad when you get attached and they may possibly die (warning: don't get too attached, they may die).
In accordance with the returning character, they just get a bit creepy and are constantly in a dark place, which causes a lot of problems with the group and tends to fight with everyone when they disapprove what the plan is.
Which is a problem and that's it for characters, cause I can't give too much away.

The graphics are still as delightful from the first game and like the first season, it improves as each episode is played at.
A nice addition is the new environmental impacts and reactions from characters, for example, if they are cold, they shiver and react towards it, more so than it did before.

In this game, you control Clem, you also seem to have more choices than before. The hints are less subtle and tends to make choices a bit easier to see. It looks much nicer and I think there is the new addition of improved looks of the quick action and it stays up longer than it previously did, only if it is by a few seconds.
The controls themselves have not changed (use of arrows and WASD to move), with new quick action segments (Spam Q then press E or using directional pad to dodge things), though, these may not be new but it's nice to know.
Bonus: Not much of a change from Season 1, makes it easier to jump straight into Season 2.
The game incorporates your season 1 file into this game and you can see what past actions impact this game as it progresses. It also takes the data from 400 days, when you see the characters you convinced to follow you into the camp in that game. They are side characters who helps run Carver's camp, chances are, they don't last.
Yes, choices made in this game has been more emphasised in this game than it previously has and it comes back in a way you don't realise, with a good blow added.
The one part that annoys me is how the camera still sucks and not being able to run or react as quickly as I hope but what's a game without a few flaws. Still runs on a linear path and seems more restrictive than ever but the choices impact greatly on the game as well.

The sounds have not changed much since Season 1 and are very realistic and appropriate for the game and scenes. The sense of how it is makes the player think they are really there, experiencing what is occurring.
The music for the end themes are very appropriate for the game and I found myself enjoying listening to the selected tracks, secretly wondering where I can get these for my own personal listening.

Now, I made some notes on things I found unsettling, besides the gore.
From Episode 3 onwards, physical and verbal abuse becomes a frequent occurrence, mainly against women and children, which I think may not be a theme some people can deal with. So I would advise on being cautious, considering it can get pretty nasty in some of the attacks.
The other one worth mentioning is the subtle hints of death of babies. You see an end result during the beginning of Episode 1 but later on, you meet another character close to giving birth. During Episode 4, she has difficulty giving birth and it is assumed, at first, the child has died, for me, it turns out okay but during Episode 5, there is a situation where the baby is assumed dead but it all depends how it is played out on what happens but that is what happened to me. So a fair warning for people who cannot deal with this theme.
There is also a lot of Racism occurring during Episode 4, mainly against Russians and possibly against coloured people but during that segment, a lot was going on and it was covered by all sorts of talking/screaming/yelling/etc.

A personal opinion on this game is very small. I enjoyed it but I found some parts causes a bit of a moral distress since some themes unsettle me more than others.
A personal thought about the episodes is that after Episode 3, things become more intense and somewhat stressful. I may have used very coarse language due to this and not on one occasion either.
I still feel guilty when I let someone die over another, though in this season, it doesn't happen as much as one would think, thankfully.
I also wish I could skip the credits, one sorta gets the point after seeing it for the first three times.

Pros: Great story and very addictive.

Cons: Unsettling themes, unskippable credits and annoying cameras and lack of running.

Conclusion
This is a great game, especially those who are dedicated to The Walking Dead franchise.
Highly Recommended but a warning to people who are triggered by certain themes.

Broadcasting on Steam

So me and a friend tried this beta feature out and was surprised at how simple it was to start up and control. Arguably, I mention it reminds me of twitch, when I use to dabble in streaming some time ago but I like it.

Sadly, my net is very slow at the moment and that poses a factor in which a few of my friends cannot see my games, since a few are curious about a few games I own but I hope steam considers that for when they update.

Anyway, here is what it looks like, apologies for the bad image and my friend gave the all clear to be shown.

Game Review: Haunt the House: Terrortown

Game: Haunt the House: Terrortown
Played on: PC/Steam
Console: PC/Steam, PSV, Android, iOS
Price: $4.99 [Steam]
Official Site: Haunt the House
Genre: Action

Mizu's Review
This is a simple tale, a tale of a ghost alone in a tower. The town surrounding him is full of life, full of noise, The ghost looks out at the town with longing.
This longing to reunite his family that he has lost, fills him with the desire to go out and scare everyone away and in the process, reclaim the family he lost.

I procured this game in the recent sales, mainly because I was lulled in by the cute yet simple graphics of the game. At first, I seen it during the Halloween sale, I didn't think there is much horror in it, but the story, if observed closely shows it does reach a level of dark horror. Anyway, this game is a simple 'spook everyone out of town' type of story, with the twist of taking out certain characters to reunite the family you lost. That is what I got from this game.

The story of the game is simple; you are a cute little ghost who wants to scare everyone out of town and reclaim what you lost. This can be seen by the huge painting after the intro tutorial, which depicts images of a family but some parts are incomplete. The family painting is incomplete, this tells the player one thing, it's time to bring the family together again, in death.

I, sadly, found the music a bit irritating but the sound effects the game offers is brilliant.
Each part, especially the possessable items, has it's own sound for each of it's actions. Some are even humorous in the action too, such as the polar bear purring. It was simple things like this, that made the game a bit more interesting.

The art is bright and seemingly happy to the uneducated player but don't let it fool you, the story is dark. On a personal note, I found it interesting and maybe a bit overwhelming at first. I am unsure on how else to explain the graphics, it sorta acts as a opposite. A light to this dark tale, filled with innocence of a little ghost wanting his family back.

The mechanics in this game is simple, there is only a few controls you ever need for this game, mainly the arrow keys and the WASD keys. I like how simple it was and easy to grasp when starting this game.

As a conclusive point, I like to point out at how this casual game seems to be suited for all player levels. Everything about it is pleasant to all ages and does not restrict many groups out of playing it. I would even go to the extent of saying that anyone can play this and feel satisfied in how they do.

Pros: Nice, short and simple. Very cute and suitable for all players.
Cons: Replaying means going through tutorial. Also replay value is short if you don't care for achievements.

Demo Review: NEKOPARA Vol.1

Game: NEKOPARA Vol. 1
Played On: PC
Console: PC/Steam
Future Release: December 29th, 2014 [Steam]
Genre: Visual Novel

Basically
You left home to open a bakery and in the process of moving, two cat-girls under your families care follows you there.
Basically, you are now left with a dilemma, at first, in the end, you allow them to stay and help. This is what happens.

Mizu's Thoughts
The story seems very cute and simple, you own a shop, two cute yet clingy cat-girls stay with you after much begging and that is as much as the demo offers. My thoughts are simple, I hope it keeps up this tempo, cause I think it will be such a brilliant story.
The demo itself takes about an hour to play but a lot happens, you hear about the past, see the world around them and the reason why cat-girls seem to exist.

The graphics are nice and attractive, I enjoy the look of it. Same with the music, it's nice and simple, I enjoy it a lot. I can only mention so much since it is a simple demo and show's you what you are getting into.

Probability of Purchase: Very High.
