Until Dawn: A short review
I started this game a few days after the initial release.
From what I have played, I can form a mini post about how I think of it. despite this review sitting in draft for a while and me long finishing the game, I will still share a short initial opinion before writing out a full blown review.
I started this game with the concept that this game would be like Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls.
Which I am not wrong, they have their similarities but they are very different in their own way.
Until Dawn, sadly, is not as scary as I hoped but this is coming from someone who played the whole thing and never felt a slight prickling of fear. I know this is a late review to the party of Until Dawn but better to be late then never reviewed at all.
Let me briefly talk about the story.
It seems interesting, has a lot going on with three main aspects being focused on. One is the Twins, two is what happened in 1952 and the third is about the stranger that seems to be haunting the area.
Then you have the characters and their drama and relations to each other and this effects how the story works.
Each of these bring in their own unique feel to the game and one couldn't have asked for a better thing when it comes to story driven games. The fun part is when your actions can dictate what happens to everyone in the end, who knows, everyone may end up dying and it was all up to you to save them from their demise or maybe that was not your goal.
The graphics are stunning and the music captivating. The sense of realism from the game helps drive the game home. There is not much I can complain about this game besides having to play it again and feeling slow and boring to me but in that regard, maybe it's good for the sheer fact that you can do things differently and better.
I know this is small but I plan to write a full one after having a second run through of the game.
On a personal note about the survival horror genre that this game falls under, it still doesn't quite reach the pinnacle of survival horror that I grew up with. Sure, it has it's moments but it does not win me over. For the Interactive Drama, it lives up to and beyond what I wanted and this is where this game truly shines brightly in.
